The Structure of Growth: Preparing for His Return

Activate: I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. Phil 1:9-10

Elevate: I always find it interesting how people spend their time. Did you know that we spend 25 years of our life sleeping? Or that many of us will spend 1/3 of our life at work. In today’s culture people spend 70% of their waking life in front of digital media. This information is interesting because the way we spend our time communicates what we value.

Paul lets us know our growth isn’t over until the day of Christ’s return. Every day we watch over our heart to keep it unsoiled from the world and its lust. This way our love can stay pure. It’s important to know that we don’t work for God’s love. God has already proven that His love can’t be bought or purchased. The Bible tells us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. When we were at our worst God sent His best to rescue us. God spent a tremendous amount of time and attention on our redemption.

Our goal now is to spend our time living free and preparing for His return. We have been given the time to grow and cultivate love. When His love is the driving force, the desire to please Him begins to overflow through us. Not out of the heaviness of rules or some religious responsibility. This is how we change a culture. This is how we help the world. Showing people that love is more powerful than law. And doing what’s right is an expression of that love. Many would say that we are only here on earth for just a small time. I would say the time we have needs to be used wisely in preparation for His return. Because like all of you I want to hear well done good and faithful servant.

Cultivate: Today use time to focus on someone in your life that is hard to love. Be intentional to show them love without anything in return.
