The Structure of Growth: Love- His way

Activate: I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. Phil 1:9-10

Elevate: Love is one of the most powerful tools we have as Christians. It’s more than any strong feeling. Love makes us different from the world. I’m not saying the world doesn’t love, but it’s not a pure love. Even Jesus talked about how rebellious people have the power to love. Their love is more conditional rather than based on commitment. It is motivated by the need to satisfy self.

We can be different. We can love because Christ showed us how. The more we learn about Him the more we understand His love for us and the love He commands us to have for one another. The effect of that love moves well past an external hug, kiss or encouraging word. His love should impact us internally and be the driving force behind our decisions.

The structure of growth is love. This is how we build the kingdom and frame our lives. It’s what should be important to us as Christians. Not the newest, coolest or most expensive thing, not the applause of men or how high we climb in the company. Love is not based on theology and how much knowledge we can obtain. Nothing is more important than the love we give to those who come into our presence. Why? Because this is the model that He has set for us. If we are going to grow this year our heart must not only know true love but also practice giving love freely.

Cultivate: Today let’s do a heart check. What are the reasons you do what you do? Is it to be noticed, to be advanced or to be appreciated? Today’s challenge is to show love to three people without expecting anything in return.
