The Structure of Growth: Do What Matters

Activate: I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. Phil 1:9-10

Elevate: Have you ever heard the phrase “keep the main thing the main thing?” This is one of those sayings that can quickly bring inspection into different areas of our life. The challenge usually comes down to making essential choices for what is best instead of settling for what is average.

When our love fades we need to recognize it and regroup. Paul is encouraging the Believer to move past just emotion. What matters for us is that we become grounded in our understanding of God’s love, not only the feelings.

Understanding the depth of His love solidifies our foundation. It give substance to our feelings and becomes the fuel we need to love those who are hard to love. This intentional pursuit to grow in our heart and our mind will move us into maturity. Then we truly can discern the difference between best and average. This will help us keep the main thing the main thing.

Cultivate: Read 1 Corinthians 13 and grow in your understanding of the depth of God’s love.
