Activate: Colossians 2:6-7 So then just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Elevate: Thank you! It’s not just a phrase. It can hold tremendous power. That one phrase shows humility, gratefulness and respect. As a parent of four, my wife and I find thankfulness to be one of the most important lessons we could teach our children. Our world is constantly showing us what we don’t have. Every commercial lends itself to showing we’re dissatisfied. To sell a new idea it has to be better than the old one. Which makes what we already have undesirable. Once this happens negativity seeks to be our anthem rather than the joy of a redeemed life.
Many of us think thoughts of thankfulness. When we see something happen we appreciate that person in our mind. However there has never been a person encouraged by just thoughts alone. If your gratitude is unspoken it is expressed as ungratefulness.
As believers we should overflow with thankfulness. No longer are we shackled to death but are connected to the Life Giver. That is the Good News! Don’t allow the concerns of this world to jade you’re perspective. Everyday good and bad happens, but it’s those with a heart of thanksgiving who give life.
Let’s start this New Year of praising God for all the wonderful things He has done. For many reading this blog you maybe in a difficult season. You may feel like there is nothing to be thankful about. Not true! You are not alone! God does have a plan and He is working on your behalf. Focus on the source of truth, begin to stir the heart of thanksgiving and watch the growth happen.
Cultivate: Let’s write thank you notes. Today write one to God, one to a family member and one to a friend or coworker.
