The Source of Growth: Focused and Ready

Activate: Colossians 2:6-7 So then just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Elevate: There can only ever be one primary focus in our life. Only One. If you attempt to focus on two different objects then you are unable to actually do anything about either of them. Have you ever been caught trying to focus on more than one thing and nothing really gets done?

I remember the first time I went out to hunt quail. I was out in a field and then all of a sudden a flock of quail emerged. I got too wrapped up in all the birds that I tried to shoot at all of them at once and I hit nothing. The men I was with started laughing and an older man said to me, “Which one were you aiming at?” I said, “All of them.” He laughed and said, “That’s why you didn’t hit any of them. You got to focus on the quail you want to hit.” This was an “Ah Ha” moment for me.

As we start off this new year. Let’s bring our priorities in line and focus on what would bring about the most growth. For us the most important area we can focus on is our relationship with Jesus. He is more valuable than money, relationships or our future plans.

Many in our culture are missing out on what is truly important because they’re looking for everything. This world will offer you many counterfeits. But none of it will help you grow your faith. This New Year is a gift! Don’t allow Jesus to be one of many areas you’re attempting to focus on. Jesus is the source of all growth and the way to grow in this New Year is to connect with Him. This will take an intentional act of pursuit. Remember you hit what you focus on. If our focus is to have an authentic relationship with Jesus then life will come into order and growth will be produced.

Cultivate: Todays challenge is to write down 3 major areas of focus in your life. When you’re done make sure you put Jesus in that number one spot. All day long consider Him first in your daily routine.
